L2TOR
L2TOR is a European project that investigates how social robots can help preschool children to learn a second language. For this research, an experiment was carried out at 9 primary schools with 208 children.
The project investigated how a social robot (SoftBankâs NAO) can be used as a tutor to support preschool children aged 4-6 years learn a second language (L2). Various experiments were carried out in which native speakers of Dutch, German and Turkish learned some English vocabulary. In addition, English children learned French vocabulary and grammar, and Turkish immigrant children learned Dutch words as L2.
In the future social robots will assist in education, for example in teaching children a second language.
